ROTARY ROUND-UP
News of the Ashburnham-Westminster Rotary Club

This has been a busy Spring for the Ashburnham-Westminster Rotary Club.

On March 7, Sammi Dawley and Greg Le Fernier discussed their new Web site, DailyHomeowner.com, a Web site that provides information about an area for prospective homebuyers. On March 14, Denis Driscoll and Ron Skaife told the club members about their plans to create a Scouting/Community Center in Ashburnham in honor of William Bresnahan. On March 21, about 80 people attended a Rotarysponsored dinner in honor of three outstanding public service employees in our communities: Rose Lawrence, school nurse at John R. Briggs Elementary School; Sylvia Turcotte, Ashburnham Town Secretary; and Betty Kazan, Westminster Town Secretary.

May looks to be just as active. On Saturday, May 19, the club will host its annual Spring Benefit Dinner. This family event features a gourmet buffet including various cuisines, and entertainment. The children's menu features pizza, chicken nuggets, soda and cookies. The event will be held at the Wachusett Village Inn from 5 p.m. to 11 p.m. (The swimming pool will be open until 9 p.m. for adults and children attending the event.) This sixth annual benefit supports local charities in the Ashburnham/Westminster area, and the work of Rotary International on such projects as the global eradication of polio. The dinner will be preceded by a Chinese auction and a silent auction - including gift certificates from local businesses and hotels and inns in New England. Tickets for the event are $25 for adults; $10 for children under 12 and may be obtained by calling the Wachusett Village Inn, (978) 874-2000 or by contacting a local Rotarian.

The next day, Sunday, May 20, there will be a poker tournament at the same location starting at 3 p.m. Door entrance is $20 (all of which goes to support Rotary charities) and poker tournament entry is $50. Re-buys are possible during the first hour. For more information, call the Wachusett Village Inn at (978) 874-2000.
