In brief: School Committee news + Supt. Michael Zapantis will host a budget information forum on Wednesday, May 16, and Thursday, May 17, at Oakmont Regional High School in the VonDeck Room. + The committee re-elected David Christianson, of Ashburnham, as chairman, Leonard Beaton, of Westminster, as vice chairman and Keith Glenny, of Ashburnham, as secretary. The meeting was the first since the annual town meeting. The meeting was the first for newly elected Michelle Gianino of Ashburnham. + The committee voted to write a letter in opposition to two proposed laws in the state Legislature, which would create fines for the members of town boards and commissions that violated the open meeting law. The committee members expressed their concerns about the fines because of inconsistent interpretation of the open meeting laws by the state district attorneys. They also expressed concern about the creation of the oversight board, which would direct the Attorney General to investigate complaints - something the state AG's Office is already charged to do. The committee thought that there were already enough rules in place for the open meeting law enforcement. |
