Robert J. Foley, 60 Was executive director of CAPS Collaborative

WESTMINSTER - Robert J. Foley, 60, of 52 Barrel Road, died Tuesday, May 22, 2007, in his home, after a brief illness.

He was born in Fitchburg on May 19, 1947, the son of the late Edmund F. and M. Pauline (Foley) Foley, and lived here all of his life. He was a 1965 graduate of St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School, received a bachelor's degree in 1971 and a master's degree in 1974, both from Fitchburg State College.

Mr. Foley was the executive director of CAPS Collaborative in Gardner from 1980 to the present. He was a special education teacher at Fitchburg High School and Montachusett Vocational Technical High School from 1972 to 1980.

He was a member of St. Bernard's Parish in Fitchburg, the Irish American Association and their dart team, and the Y.M.C.A. He was avid runner.

Mr. Foley served in the U.S. Army from 1965 to 1967.

He leaves his wife, Susan M. (LaFortune) Chaplin-Foley; one son, Michael E. Chaplin and one daughter, Whittney M. Chaplin, all of Westminster; one brother, Peter E. Foley, and his wife, Mary J. of Leominster; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister, Paula R. Keaveny in 2001.

A Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 26, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Bernard's Church, 240 Water St., Fitchburg. Burial will follow in St. Bernard's Cemetery, Fitchburg. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02245. Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home is directing arrangements.
