Stevens Memorial Library offers fun for the summer Stevens Memorial Library, located at 20 Memorial Drive, Ashburnham will kick off its Summer Reading 2007 program with an Opening Celebration from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 18. The celebration will feature a cookout and music by The Nu-Tones. Other events planned for the summer include: Discover Massachusetts Park will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 19. Have you ever walked the halls of a three story stone mansion? Have you ever seen a milking room full of Holsteins? Join Ranger Kathy Ward and discover where these and other unique recreation opportunities exist at a presentation on exploring Massachusetts State Parks using the free library parks pass. For more information, call (617) 694-9190. Wednesday Movie Time will be held at 10:30 a.m. each Wednesday beginning June 20 through July 25. Thursday is Craft Day. Do-it-yourself crafts will be available each Thursday beginning June 21 through July 26. Lutes & Limberjacks will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 28. Featuring lutes, guitars, bongos and percussion. This is an interactive concert/demonstration for children and families. A Children's Story Hour will be held from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday, July 10. The topic "Germ Busters" will be presented by Sharon Fata, RN. Presented by the library and Nashoba Associated Boards of Health. In cooperation with the library, Denise Renzi, OTR/L, CHT will present "Preparing Preschoolers to Learn to Write: A Handwriting Readiness Program" at 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 17. For more information, or to register for the program, call (978) 400-6705. A Shadow Puppet Theatre, with Sally Cragin, will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, July 21. A puppet-making workshop will be held following the performance. A Kid's Sewing Camp will be held Tuesday, July 24, through Thursday, July 26, from 1 to 4 p.m. Enjoy three afternoons of sewing while you make a handbag, summer hat and fabric belt. Three mid-afternoon snacks and drinks will be provided. Fee is $90 (students must provide sewing machine and materials; supply list available at signup). For ages 8 and up. A Summer Reading Ending Celebration will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 31. Ice-cream, crafts and prizes will be featured. The library has passes for discounted or free admission to various museums, including The Boston Children's Museum, Davis' Farmland, EcoTarium, Fruitlands, Higgins Armory, Museum of Science, and Worcester Art Museum.
