A message

sent?

After the election results were announced many people said a message was sent to the regional school committee on Tuesday night with the overwhelming defeat of the override for the school district.

Voters in both towns were on the same page with the results of the ballot vote.

The question is what was that message? Was it cut the budget and live within the Proposition 2 ½ rules and the state funding no matter where the cuts come from? Was it we don't like a program or a mission of the school district so we aren't going to fund the override request? Or was it simply voters saying we can't afford higher property taxes so please do make us pay?

It seems like now that the message was sent to the school committee it's time to explain the message.

A little

animosity

Over the course of the last two weeks animosity has arisen between members of the Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School Committee, the superintendent of schools, Ashburnham Selectmen and the town administrator.

It seems like everyone was not quite on the same page when it came down to the details of the relocation of the town offices to the high school. It is unclear how everyone reached the impression that he or she was under because it has come down to a case of he said, he said (there are no shes in this process at the moment).

But after some forceful public, and private, arguments, it seems like the officials have at least come to an official understanding. This is good because this type of bargaining and problem solving is why they get hired and elected.

These men and women who are elected to office or hired by the elected officials must work out the problems and we are fools to believe there won't be problems.

But, let us hope the understanding that was tentatively reached last week and was supposed to have been settled (after press time) this week is agreed to by all parties.

So is solved the professional disagreement but now let us hope that there is no personal hard feelings remaining. If there are it will make the next discussion more difficult and less easily solved.
