Farrell basketball tournament winners announced

The Dan Farrell Memorial 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament was held on Saturday, June 9, at Oakmont Regional High School because of the rain.

Thirty-five teams participated in 6 divisions. The winners of the various divisions were: Division 1 (over 31 years old): Regular Guys (Dan Allen, Tim Valentine and Matt Erickson) who beat last year's champs Centre Pizza; Division 2 (6th grade): The Ballerettes (Kayla Costa, Mikayla Martinez, Sarah Morse and Nicole Cournoyer); Division 3 (middle school): Rice and Beans (Derek Goodall, Mike, Tim and Tevin); Division 4 (family): The Tenacious D's (Bernie, Donna, Derek, Conor and Colleen Doherty) who beat the Farrells; Division 5 (high school): Kirilenko (Mike Oksanish, Cody Brown, Brendan Harer and John Galaznik); and Divisoin 6 (college): CPS (Conor Doherty, Peter Bean, Steve Maylock and Tim Hagan).

All the winners earned a much-coveted Green #5 tee-shirt.

The winner of the 3-point contest was Nick Xarras, and the winner of the free-throw contest was Colleen Doherty.

There were many prizes and raffles held throughout the day, as well, with Jeff Lawrence cooking up some delicious food on the grill.

This year, the tournament raised just over $3,500, toward the Oakmont scholarships. To date, the fund has given $18,000 to Oakmont graduates pursuing a college education.

It was a wonderful day, keeping the memory of Dan Farrell alive in his town of Ashburnham.
