Rotary Round-up
News of the Ashburnham-Westminster Rotary Club.

The Club began its new year with an Installation Dinner for incoming officers on June 20. These officers are: President Sam Albert; President-Elect - Peter Vynne; Secretary Beth D'Onfro; Asst. Secretary Barbara Friedman; Treasurer Karen Goodall; Asst. Treasurer Linda Guinard; Sergeant-at-Arms Michael Zapantis; Asst. Sergeant-at-Arms Wally Taylor

The annual Spring Benefit dinner on May 19 raised $2,500 for the Ryan Jones Memorial Scholarship Fund at Montachusett Regional Vocational Technical School, as well as funds for contributions to local charities. In addition, the club will be contributing $1,000 to the establishment of the Bresnahan Memorial Community Center in Ashburnham, and $500 to a special program called, Rotarians for Mine Action, which is helping to provide prosthetic devices for victims of mine explosions in Basra, Iraq.

The recipients of Rotary scholarships this year were Kaitlyn Therrien, a graduate of Monty Tech; Samantha Cote, a graduate of Oakmont; and Katlyn Spurr, a graduate of Oakmont.

On May 30, Rotarians participated in the Memorial Day parade and festivities in both Ashburnham and Westminster.

On July 23, the club will host its annual golf outing at The Woods of Westminster Golf Course. All the proceeds from this event go into the scholarship fund. This always a fun occasion that includes not only golf but raffles, prizes, food and surprises. Members are looking for players and sponsors. Those interested in participating or sponsoring a hole, please talk to a Rotarian or leave a message for Ernie Muserallo at the Wachusett Village Inn, at (978) 874-2000.

People may have noticed the colorful flower garden on Route 2A approaching Westminster. This is a Rotary project, spearheaded by Joanie Anderson, to make our town more attractive. Every week a different Rotarian has the responsibility to water the plants, if Mother Nature doesn't do the job.

Rotary welcomes new members. If you are interested, call Roland Morin at (978) 537-1010.
