Ashburnham's senior center calendar

The Ashburnham Council on Aging (COA) provides numerous services for the senior citizens in town, most at little or no cost.

The Ashburnham Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located on 1 Memorial Drive in the same building as the Ashburnham Police Department.

The following are some of the services/ activities available at the Senior Center: Meals-on-Wheels are available to those unable to get out. MOC Nutrition Lunch Meals are served at noon. Participants must reserve the day before by calling the meal-site at (978) 827-5735. Cost of meals is a donation of $2.

If transportation is needed, call (978) 827- 5000. Transportation on the Senior Van costs $0.25 each stop in town and $0.50 each way to Fitchburg or Gardner.

Additional activities include: lunch, bingo, arts & crafts, Forever Young Club meetings and events, line dancing, speakers, blood pressure clinics, exercise, and the Tax Work Off Program.

The following events are planned for July:

An Adult Wellness Clinic, in partnership with the Nashoba VNA, will be held from 11 a.m. to noon. Seniors may have their blood pressure checked as well as ask questions regarding health issues and concerns. Anyone over 55 can participate in this program.

The second annual Firemen's Barbecue for all seniors will be held at noon on Thursday, July 12. The menu will be hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, potato salad, pasta salad, green salad and dessert. Free. Reservations requested.

A Holiday Party will be held at noon on

Wednesday, July 18, with cheesy potato soup, sliced roast beef, roman blend salad and a muffin for dessert. Join them for lunch and a gift ($5 or under) exchange. There is a $2 donation for lunch. Reservations requested; van transportation available.

A Cribbage Tournament will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, July 19. No entry fee, single competition. Prizes for first and second place. Refreshments available. Reservations requested.

The second annual "Blueberry Bash" will be held at 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, July 24. Enjoy blueberry pie, blueberries and cream, and blueberries and ice cream. Donation is $1. For those who would like, lunch will be available at noon. Donation is $2. Reservations requested; van transportation available.

"Pizza and Bingo for a Buck" will be held at noon Tuesday, July 31. One dollar buys you lunch, dessert and bingo card. Reservations requested; van transportation available.

Trip: The Forever Young Club will offer a four day/three night trip to Washington, D.C. on Friday, Oct. 5 to Monday, Oct. 8. Departure from Ashburnham is 8 a.m. The trip includes motorcoach transportation, three nights lodging, six meals, two full day guided tours. Cost per person, based on double occupancy, is $365. Add $120 for single occupancy. $75 is due upon signing up. The final payment is due July 30. In case you need to cancel unexpectedly, Diamond Tours has a Protection Plan.
