Nextel to conduct balloon test

The Zoning Board of Appeals has requested Nextel Communications, the applicant for a pending ZBA special permit for a proposed cellular tower, to conduct a balloon test at the location of the proposed tower.

The balloon test will be conducted on Monday, July 16, between 8 a.m. and noon. The balloon will be place within 50 feet of the proposed site on town-owned property on Cushing Street.

The balloon is to be raised 150 feet, which is the proposed height of the tower.

The balloon test is also being conducted as a joint meeting of the ZBA and the Historical Commission.

The ZBA is holding the next public hearing for the Nextel Application on Wednesday, July 18, at 7:30 p.m. in the Senior Center area of the VMS Building.
