CALENDAR
The goal of the William J. Bresnahan Scouting and Community Memorial Park Committee is to revitalize the area to provide a place for families to go to relax and enjoy the natural area. Fundraising efforts will be used to remove the existing Boy and Girl Scout buildings, restore the natural beauty of the park and construct a Community Center first for use by the Ashburnham Boy and Girl Scouts and secondly for the community.

Ashburnham Community Church will host a concert by the New England Swing Orchestra at 5 p.m. at Winchester Park, Ashburnham. The orchestra will play Big Band music from the 1930's, 40's and 50's. Sausages, burgers, hot dogs, salads, popcorn, home-baked goods, ice cream and beverages will be for sale. There will be attendance prizes for adults and children.
17 TUESDAY Magician Steve Rudolph will present "Magic...With a Beat" at 10:30 a.m. at Hawthorne Brook Middle School, 64 Brookline Road, Townsend. The show combines great magic with great music, comedy, puppets, surprises and lots of audience participation. Learn how to wash your clothes with music, find a leprechaun's pot of gold, watch a snake charmer at work, and more. Sponsored by the Townsend Public Library. For information, call (978) 597-1714. An auction will be held at 1 p.m. at the Fitchburg Senior Center, O'Neill Hall, 14 Wallace Ave. Items range from the very inexpensive to larger items such as a piano and exercise equipment. Jim Page will be auctioneer. Also, as part of the auction, audience members are asked to bring a wrapped package to be auctioned off. 18 WEDNESDAY The Museum of Science traveling program will present "Science Magic" at 10 a.m. at the Fitchburg Public Library, 610 Main St. Free; appropriate for children ages 6 and up. The Executive Women's Network will host a Summer Social from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at the Lancaster Golf Center, 438 Old Union Turnpike, Lancaster. Swing the golf clubs, hit some baseballs and enjoy the company. This event provides an opportunity for business-women to get together in a relaxed atmosphere with associates and clients. A light lunch will be served, sponsored by the Best Western Royal Plaza Hotel; door prizes awarded.
Auditions for Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" will be held from 6 to 8:30 p.m. in the Townsend Town Hall. Try outs are for students entering the seventh grade and above. Amy Albro, a student majoring in theater, has been selected as this year's director. If selected, it is required of you to attend rehearsals on the town common Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 6 to 8:30 p.m. July 20 through Aug. 20. The show is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 22.
