Westminster All Star players take their swings in the final games
First stop, Athol to face the Chuck Stone All Stars on July 21. Strong pitching by Zack Adams silenced Westminster's bats until the fifth inning when Kurt Wegener put Westminster on the scoreboard. Westminster rallied in the sixth inning with Brett Smith, Chaz Smith, Patrick Porpora and Jack Arsenault hitting to allow Tyler Hildreth, Doug Ciampi and Brett Smith to score. Final score was Westminster 4, Athol 20. The next stop was Orange on July 23 where Westminster rebounded with a win, final score of 22 to 1. The offensive was firing on all cylinders. All players hit, walked and scored their way to victory. Chaz Smith led the pack with an "in the park" homerun and two triples. Joe Panarello and Brett Smith also hit triples and Tyler Hildreth, Patrick Porpora and Kurt Wegener all had doubles. Brian King, Jack Arsenault, Cody Walters, Doug Ciampi and Andrew Davis all had hits. Tyler Spencer drew four walks to score multiple times. The final stop for Westminster was a long ride to Hardwick to play Quabbin Blue on July 25. In a real nail bitter, with the lead changing many times, Westminster lost in the bottom of the sixth inning by one run, with a final score of 8 to 9. Strong pitching by Tyler Dion kept Westminster quiet until the fourth inning when Patrick Porpora hit a sacrifice fly to score Tyler Spencer and Tyler Hildreth. Chaz Smith started the fifth inning with a triple and Brian King hit him home, also scoring. Quabbin had scored six runs, so Westminster was still down by two. In the top of the sixth, walks to Tyler Spencer, Tyler Hildreth and Andrew Davis, combined with hits from Brett Smith, Chaz Smith and Joe Panarello put Westminster on top 8 - 6. Quabbin came out strong and Westminster defensive could not hold them. After multiple hits, they brought a run home and took the game. Brett Smith and Tyler Hildreth shared the pitching duties for Westminster, while Colin Bennett and Ryan Walsh pitched for Quabbin. |
