Firefighters Association to host Scrap Metal Drive

The Ashburnham Firefighter's Association will host its first Scrap Metal Drive from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 11, at the Ashburnham Highway Department, 19 Central St. They will be collecting all types of scrap metal including copper, brass, aluminum, stainless, auto scrap, heavy iron, light iron, cast iron and insulated wire. They will also be accepting the following items at a reduced rate compared to the towns recycling center. Refrigerator, $40; air conditioner, $20; other white goods (no CFC's (dishwashers, stove, dryer, etc), $10; push lawn mower, $20; and riding lawn mower, $40. All fluids must be drained before drop off.

In addition to the drop off, they will be offering a pickup service for a fee of $10. The service will be street side pickup only and will be limited to 200 pounds maximum per item picked up.

Road Race honors memories of Brian Simmons and William J. Bresnahan

The third annual Brian's Gift Road Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Winchester Park, Ashburnham. This year's proceeds will be donated to the William J. Bresnahan Scouting and Community Center, the site where Brian participated in the Ashburnham swimming lesson and scouting programs. Events include a 4.5 mile road race (runners and walkers welcome); a Chinese auction; face painting and children's activities; raffles, food and music.
