Ashby Police alert area

On Aug. 2, Ashby Police notified area residents that a Level 3 Sex Offender had moved into town. Police are required to notify residents under state law, when the state Sex Offender Registry Board, designates an offender as a level 3. A Level 3 offender is a person that "the board has determined that this individual is at a high risk to re-offend and that the degree of dangerousness posed to the public is such that a substantial public safety interest in served by active community notification.

The offender is Brian K. Racine of 26 Erickson Road, Ashby. According to the police notification he is a white 44-years-old man, who is 6'4" and about 300 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes. He was convicted of rape and abuse of a child on March 23, 1983, as well as indecent assault and battery on a child under 14 years of age. On Nov. 14, 2003, he was convicted of two counts of O/S purchase or possession of child pornography.

The state warns that the registry information should not be used to commit a crime or to engage in illegal discrimination or harassment of an offender and that community or threatening to do so is a criminal offense.
