Westminster Jimmy Fund All Star season ends with a bang The Westminster Jimmy Fund All Stars finished their tournament with two home games. Rain postponed the first game for one day so now with back to back games on July 30 and 31, pitch count management was crucial. Aces, Brett Smith and Tyler Hildreth, each pitched solid innings before passing the ball off to relievers, Chaz Smith, Patrick Porpora and Cody Walter. The pitchers combined to hold Quabbin Yellow to one run, while Westminster bats were lively and the base running was aggressive, scoring six runs in the first. Tyler Spencer, Kurt Wegener, Jack Arsenault and Tyler Hildreth, each, scored two times during the game. The final score was Westminster 12, Quabbin Yellow 1. The final game for Westminster featured a festive atmosphere as the teams enjoyed pregame music of "Take me out to the Ballgame" and Neil Diamond's "Sweet Caroline." Narragansett was relaxed knowing it had made it to the playoffs while Westminster came to play. Westminster came out strong, jumping to an 8-2 lead. Key hits by Patrick Porpora, Andrew Davis and Doug Ciampi got Westminster rolling, until Gansett's Austin Myers came in to relieve starter Jake Hale and slow down the bats. In the third inning, Gansett "got the funk" and scored seven runs. Tyler Hildreth came in to give Westminster's Brett Smith relief on the mound, and Westminster fought to get the lead back on scores by Cody Walter and Kurt Wegener. Gansett had another strong inning in the fifth and took the lead for good. Solid defense by Brian King, Joe Panarello, Jack Arsenault and Tyler Spencer showed the great improvement in Westminster's game. |
