Organizers say thanks for coming out

To the Editor:

The Summer Band Concert series was successful again this year. Our variety of bands brought many people and families to the Winchester Park for great music, abundant food and warm fellowship. Thanks go out to our concert sponsors and prize donators. We'd like to thank Chuck and Mudd, The New England Swing Band and Al Girouard and Ruff Cut for providing great music and entertainment. See you next year.

To the Editor:

I want to issue a challenge to all who read this newspaper. I have recently e-mailed Senator Stephen Brewer and Representative Robert Rice asking to do something about unfunded and partially funded mandates since they circumvent Prop 2 1/2. I also asked that something be done to eliminate additional votes being allowed to fund school budgets, one vote period.

Recently many people have a lot to say on local Internet blogs, street corners and general conversations. It's time we all put our words into action. E-mail, write, or call your local Senator and Representative and ask that they do something. It is easy to put the blame on "they," "them," and to say "we" won't tolerate something. If enough people show they care our elected state officials will know it isn't just lip service. Our schools shouldn't have to be decimated because of lack of funds and our local tax payers shouldn't have to be over burdened funding unfunded state mandates.

You can do nothing, laugh at me for speaking out, or get up off your assets and write a simple letter. The decision is yours.
