Canines For Combat Veterans Benefit Shoot

The Fitchburg Sportsmen's Club will host a benefit shoot on Sunday Aug. 26, at 1 p.m.

for Canines For Combat Veterans at their location at 289 Rindge State Road (Route 119) in Ashburnham.

Donations will be solicited for the experience of firing an assortment of different firearms including: XMl 77 Carbine, M1A1 30 cal, AK 47, A 1911 45 Auto, 44 Magnum, Thompson 45 Cal., M-16 machinegun, Steyr 9mm submachinegun, black powder firearms, and other exotic guns.

The event is open to the public and ear plugs and eye protection will be provided.

A representative from the Marine Corps League #1076 North Detachment will be present to answer any questions about the Canine for Combat Veterans Program.

Road Race honors memories of Simmons and Bresnahan

The third annual Brian's Gift Road Race will be held on Saturday, Sept. 29, at Winchester Park, Ashburnham. This year's proceeds will be donated to the William J. Bresnahan Scouting and Community Center, the site where Brian participated in the Ashburnham swimming lesson and scouting programs. Events include a 4.5 mile road race (runners and walkers welcome); a Chinese auction; face painting and children's activities; raffles, food and music.

National Society of Collegiate Scholars welcomes Christianson

David M. Christianson, III, of Ashburnham, has accepted membership in the National Society of Collegiate Scholas. Christianson will be honored during an induction convocation this fall on the campus of Northeastern University.

NSCS is a member of the Association of College Honor Societies and is the nation's only interdisciplinary honors organization for first and second year college students
