Boulder Coffeehouse presents Ragged Heroes FITCHBURG - The Boulder Coffeehouse is delighted to kick off its 2007- 2008 season with Ragged Heroes at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Fitchburg, 923 Main St., on the Upper Common. Ragged Heroes offers up an eclectic blend of acoustic music with vocal harmonies accompanied by an array of instruments - guitar, mandolin, banjo, harmonica and percussion - with energy and humor throughout. Proceeds from the $5 suggested donation will be split between the host church and ARC Community Services, Inc., a private, not for profit organization providing services to individuals who need special assistance. The Boulder Coffeehouse is a smokefree, alcohol-free, fair-trade coffee, candlelit venue for folk and other musical genres. Sunset Concert to benefit Crocker Field FITCHBURG - Crocker Field will host the first Crocker Field Summer Sunset Concert at 6 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, Fitchburg. The concert, sponsored by the Fitchburg Pride, features "American Idol" star Ayla Brown, Grammy-nominated band Bellevue Cadillac, and a handful of special - and surprise guests. Proceeds from the event will go to the Crocker Field Restoration Fund. The Crocker Field Restoration Committee is working on restoring the city landmark, which was first opened in 1927. The restoration committee is working on upgrading a stadium that was first opened in 1918. The field was designed by the Olmstead Brothers, who also designed Boston Common and other landmark greenspaces. The field was last renovated in 1988. Yard sale to benefit veterans; vendors invited FITCHBURG - The Fitchburg Lodge Of Elks # 847 will hold a yard sale from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, Sept. 8, at the lodge, located at 860 Ashby State Road. Proceeds to benefit veterans. Vendors are invited. Rental of tables are $10. Donations are accepted (no junk/no clothes) after 4 p.m. beginning Sept. 5. Remaining items will be picked up by Ginny's. Christian Performing Arts Center offering Modern Dance training this Fall FITCHBURG - The Christian Performing Arts Center (CPAC) is excited to announce the addition of a full modern dance training program in the fall of 2007. This program will be run by CPAC's Dance Director and co-founder of NYC dance company, Guidance Productions, Ellen Guglietti. Ellen is a well-respected dancer in New York City. She will be offering modern classes for all ages, preschool through adult, a Ballet Technique class, and a daytime Core Strengthening class (complete with creative childcare). Ellen's Advanced Modern Class, designed for the more serious dancer, will include Horton, Taylor, and Graham techniques, bringing a NYC dance class to the Fitchburg community. While Ellen will teach many of CPAC's classes, another Guidance dancer, Amanda Page, will also be teaching a Taylor Technique Class, a Hip-Hop Class, and a Core Strengthening Class. Vendors wanted for fall fair and flea market TEMPLETON - Plans are underway for this year's Fall Fair and Flea Market, scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 22, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the First Church of Templeton. The Highlands Host Yard Sale to Benefit The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk and Operation Christmas Child FITCHBURG - The Highlands will be hosting their annual Yard Sale from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at their facility located at 335 Nichols Road. This event will be held rain or shine at the facility. The Highlands host this event annually with proceeds split between The Alzheimer's Association's Annual Memory Walk and Operation Christmas Child. The Alzheimer's Association Memory Walk® is the nation's largest event to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer care, support and research. This years walk will be held on Sept. 29, at Mount Wachusett Community College. As always The Highlands is seeking additional team members to take part in this event. The Highlands along with Life Care Centers of America participates annually in the Operation Christmas Child campaign, collecting shoe boxes full of Christmas gifts to be distributed to children in war-torn and poverty-stricken countries all over the world. The project is run through Samaritan's Purse, a Christian relief organization headed by Franklin Graham, son of the Rev. Billy Graham. As in prior years The Highlands will serve as a local drop site for gift filled shoe boxes during the collection week. Donations of yard sale items are still needed.
