School buildings' availability

The Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District will be changing the hours of the availability of the school buildings in the evenings and after-school. The district administration has changed the hours because they have eliminated custodial positions as part of the budget cuts.

Westminster Elementary and Meetinghouse schools

The buildings will be open from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. with one custodian working in each school. The custodians will then work in the same school from 6 to 9 p.m. therefore closing one of the buildings on 6 p.m. Westminster Elementary will be open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday evenings until 9 p.m. and Meetinghouse will be open on Tuesday and Thursday evenings until 9 p.m.

John R. Briggs School

The building will close for community use at 4 p.m. everyday, except for the Extended Day program which will continue to operate during its scheduled hours.

Overlook Middle School

The community use hours will not change, so the school will continue to be open from the close of school until 10 p.m. for community use.

Oakmont High School

The community use hours will not change, so the school will continue to be open from the close of school until 10 p.m. for community use.

The procedure for scheduling community activities in the school will remain the same and forms for space requests are in the main office of each school. The weekend use of the buildings will continue to be determined by the overtime availability of the custodians.

The School Committee has not decided if they will institute building use fees.
