Fitchburg native to host Origami reception at art museum

The Fitchburg Art Museum, located on Merriam Parkway, announces fall and winter exhibitions, events and performances, with a special exhibition opening this Sunday, Sept. 30 from noon to 4 p.m., "On The Edge: Contemporary Origami," and "Contemporary Sculpture," sponsored by Workers' Credit Union.

Contemporary marvels by Origami master Michael LaFosse and selected students from the world-renowned Origamido Studio will be presented. More than 60 works by the Fitchburg native will be exhibited including realistic animals, life-like insects, natural flowers, intricate boxes, and complex, geometric shapes.

At the opening reception, LaFosse will attend, and demonstrate folding techniques and sign books for visitors. Also on exhibition will be "Contemporary Sculpture" with work by Lothar Ostenberg and Sally Moore. Both exhibitions will be on display through January 27, 2008

LaFosse is a world-renowned paper maker and paper-folding artist. He has been practicing the art of Origami for over 40 years, and has been teaching for more than 30 years. He is internationally regarded as one of the top origami masters in the world today.

Born in Fitchburg, he was fascinated by seashells and studied to become a biologist. This is evident in his works - many of which have been shown in the Louvre in Paris, and the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem.
