Over-40 baseball a classic this weekend This weekend, 21 games of adult baseball at its finest will be played during the third annual Central Massachusetts "Fall Classic," featuring 12 area teams. Teams from Connecticut, New Hampshire, Western Massachusetts, Quincy, and the local area will participate at fields in the area. Featured teams include the New England Red Sox, 2007 champions of the Central Mass Over 40 Baseball League; and the Leominster Diamondbacks, who won the league title in 2006. The Red Sox are also preparing to try to win their third straight National Championship in Las Vegas later in October. Other local teams include the Whalom Greys, the Townsend Astros and the Worcester Wolves. Out-of-town teams include Connecticut/Tobacco Valley, Central Mass 45's, Manchester Eagles, Vermont, Springfield Nor'easters, Quincy Greys and the Mass Minutemen. There is no admission to any of the games. Tournament officials include Co-Directors John Cantatore and Martin Mastovich, field maintenance representative Lonnie Lopes, field liaisons Rob Robuccio, Rick Daigneault and Jason Wetherbee, and Vince Pellecchia is the media liaison. Tournament officials think this tournament can easily become a national tournament in the future, with the only possible problem being finding enough fields. |
