Letters to the Editor A message from the school resource officer To the Editor: Hooray! School is back in session. This means that many children are riding buses to and from school. Recently, I have received several complaints of speeding cars and cars passing buses with red lights flashing. If a bus is stopped with its red lights illuminated, it is the law that you must stop until the driver turns the red lights off. While it can be an inconvenience to stop for the buses on your way to work or other important appointments, we should all be most concerned about the safety of our children. Therefore, officers of the Ashburnham Police Department will be out in the community strictly enforcing speed limits and other motor vehicle violations. This includes speeding, passing buses, parking in fire zones, etc. I would like to thank you in advance for your support and cooperation. Our children are our future ... please pitch in and help protect those that are most precious to us. Kevin Ahearn School Resource Officer Ashburnham Next book sale is scheduled for a week To the Editor: I am writing to inform you of the dates for my next book sale. It will be held in the Malcolm Stewart Room at the Stevens Memorial Library, Monday, Oct. 29 through Saturday, Nov. 3. The hours will be 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. on Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. on Friday and 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on Saturday. Thank you to everyone who has donated books since my last sale, especially to those who gave children's books so that I now have a good supply of picture books, easy readers and books appropriate for elementary school children. Money raised in this sale will be combined with the $106.75 (half of the proceeds from the February sales) and donated in equal shares to the food pantries in town, the one at the Community Church and the one at the People's Church. If you would like to make a donation of non-perishable food to the food pantries there will be a box at the sale in which you may leave it.
