COMMUNITY NOTES Commission members sought The Westminster Historical Commission is involved in the community's preservation planning process by identifying, describing and locating buildings, structures, objects, areas, burial grounds, landscape features and sites that are of historical, architectural, or archaeological importance to the community, the state or the nation. The historical commission is looking for several new members to fill open positions. For more information, contact Mike Volmar at (978) 874-2645 or attend their next meeting. The Commission meets at 7 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the New Town Hall. Town Calendars available The Westminster Historical Society announces that the new Town Calendar for 2008 is now ready and on sale. The calendar features old businesses in Westminster, including two chair factories, a sawmill, two large hotels in the center of town and a barber shop. A new feature is the back page of the calendar which lists the addresses and telephone numbers of all town offices, all the churches in town, all the schools and important organizations in town. Events of organizations in town and the school are marked on the dates of every month. Calendars are being sold at the Westminster Pharmacy, Vincent's Country Store, the Library, Greg's Barber Shop and the Historical Society. The cost is $10.50. Cultural Council seeking members The Westminster Cultural Council is looking for two new members to fill open positions. Two meetings are held at the end of October to the beginning of November to allocate grant funds. For information about joining the Westminster Cultural Council, please call (978) 874-0489. |
