Walter J. Lazarz, 84
Was U.S. veteran; enjoyed playing golf

WESTMINSTER - Walter J. Lazarz, 84, of 85 East Road, died at home Thursday, Oct. 25, 2007, after an illness.

He was born on Feb. 25, 1923, in Ludlow, the son of the late Joseph and Victoria (Bulat) Lazarz.

Mr. Lazarz was a World War II Army Air Corp veteran, as a Tec Sergeant on a B-17 as a radioman and crewman serving in Europe. He was shot down on his first mission and was a P.O.W. in Stalag 17 Prison Camp for a year and a half. He was also awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during war.

He worked for the Monsanto Company as a scheduler. He originally lived in Ludlow before moving to Brookfield and then he had been living in Vista Del Lago in Stuart, Fla.

Mr. Lazarz was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, D.A.V. He was a master bridge player, and enjoyed playing golf. He was a kind and loving father, grandfather, and husband. He was the finest and most honorable man.

He leaves two sons, Walter Lazarz of Auburn and Steven Lazarz with whom he had lived with for the past six months; five grandchildren, Tom Snow of West Brookfield, Christopher Ryan of Springvale, Maine, Shyla Foss of Biddeford, Maine, Pamela Walker of North Oxford, and Michelle Lazarz of Auburn; two great-grandchildren, Tom Snow, Jr. of West Brookfield, and Vanessa Walker of North Oxford; two brothers, John Lazarz of New Hampshire and Stanley Lazarz of Massachusetts; three sisters, Wanda Carr of Colorado, Marion Boryslawski of New York and Jane Lazarz of Massachusetts; and a special niece, Patti Tomczak of Massachusetts. He was the husband of the late Marilyn (Meister) Lazarz. He was also predeceased by his daughter, Carol Snow; and one sister, Sonia Tomczak.

Funeral services are private. Burial will be private in the Hazardville Cemetery, Enfield, Conn. Memorial contributions can be made to the Simonds-Sinon Regional Cancer Center, 275 Nichols Road, Fitchburg, MA 01420 or to the American Lung Association, 35 Harvard Street, Worcester, MA 01609.

The Westminster Chapel of the Sawyer-Miller-Masciarelli Funeral Homes assisted the family with arrangements.
