Habitat encourages people to attend town meeting

To the Editor:

The town of Ashburnham will hold a special town meeting on Thursday, Nov. 15, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium at Oakmont Regional High School. This meeting is to vote on an article that will allow Habitat for Humanity to proceed with building a home with the McSparren family on Sherbert Road. We need registered Ashburnham voters to attend this special town meeting and support us in our efforts to get this house built.

In two prior town meetings the voters passed articles authorizing the Selectmen to sell to Habitat for Humanity two adjacent lots previously taken by the Town for nonpayment of taxes. Each lot individually failed to meet the current zoning bylaws, but together they constitute a single building lot. Although these previously passed articles identified the two lots using the town Assessors' nomenclature, the parcels should have been identified by the deed number as recorded at the Registry of Deeds. This article corrects this oversight and identifies the parcels by the deed number. This article is of a housekeeping nature.

If the article passes the land will then be sold to Habitat for Humanity and from there we will begin to obtain the necessary permits to start building. Depending on the how the weather is this winter, we are hoping for a late winter or early spring start on building the house. Please come out on Thursday, Nov. 15, and help support our project.
