WESTMINSTER - Carl E. Bernhardt Jr., 68, of 4 Hanks Hill Road, died Saturday, Nov. 17, 2007, at HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after an illness.

Carl was born in Fitchburg on Nov. 6, 1939, the son of the late Carl E. and Della (Morin) Bernhardt. He was a 1957 graduate of Gardner High School.

He worked for the former Crocker Burbank Paper Co, then the James River Paper Co for 31 years. He then worked for the Leominster School Department as a custodian for 11 years before his retirement.

Carl was a member of St. Edward the Confessor Church and a life member of the British American Club in Fitchburg. He was most passionate about spending time with his family and friends.

He leaves his wife of 44 years, Lucille R. (Barrette) Bernhardt; one daughter and sonin law, Christine and Joseph Sheehan of Melrose; two grandsons, Matthew Sheehan and Brendan Sheehan both of Melrose; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Maria Bernhardt of North Conway, N.H.; one niece and several nephews.
