Work continues on schedule at Public Safety Building
Barrett said the change orders were small things such as moving a drainage pipe. The building should be completely closed in during the next four to five weeks whether permitting, Barrett said. "We still have a lot of work in front of us. We are very happy to report that things are going on schedule and relatively smoothly." The builders are 80 percent done with the block work in the basement and the back, and the apparatus bay is nearing completion. "In the next month you'll see some major progress down there," he said. Members of the Building Committee meet bi-weekly with the project manager and representatives of the construction company to keep up to date with the progress of the building. "We haven't really dug into our contingency (money) at this point," he said. "We know we will at some point." During the winter the construction crews will work on installing the interior of the building including the electrical and plumbing work. When the weather breaks for the spring they will finish working on the outside of the building including the aesthetic work. The building is expected to be ready for occupancy late this summer. "July would be great. August will be good too," Barret said. "We want to make sure everything is done right. We don't want to rush anything but we still want to get in there." Barrett said the Building Committee is going to put together a formal presentation for residents to see the progress of the building, which they hope to air on the cable channel. "Just so people in town can have a good idea of what they are getting for their money," said Barrett. |
