Mary C. Fitzgerald, 89 FITCHBURG - Mary C. (Coffey) Fitzgerald, 89, of Braintree, formerly of 214 Blossom St., died Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, in South Shore Hospital, South Weymouth. She was born in Fitchburg on June 21, 1918, the daughter of the late Michael F. and Catherine (McDonald) Coffey and had lived here all of her life before moving to her daughter's home in Braintree, nine years ago. Mary graduated from St. Bernard's Central Catholic High School in 1936. She was the principle clerk in the City Clerk's Office in Fitchburg for 25 years prior to her retirement. Before that she had worked seasonally at the former Caswell Hawthorne Company and also worked several years at the former Webber Lumber Company both in Fitchburg. Mrs. Fitzgerald was a member of St. Bernard's Parish, the Homemaker's Club, the Professional Women's Club and the Daughter's of Isabella. Mary was also a Girl Scout leader and member of the Retired Municipal Employees. Her husband, William F. Fitzgerald, died in 1977. She is survived by a son, Michael Fitzgerald and his wife, Carol-Ann of Ashburnham; a daughter, Donna Drew and her husband, Donald of Braintree; three grandsons, Jeffrey Drew and his wife, Stacy of Weymouth, Brian Drew and his wife, Meghan of Boston and Ross Fitzgerald of Ashburnham. Besides her husband, she is predeceased by a sister, Ann McMurray in 1995 and a brother, Timothy Coffey in 2000. Memorial contributions may be made to the Marians of the Immaculate Conception, Eden Hill, Stockbridge, MA 01262 in honor of Mary's strong devotion to Saint Faustina. Smith-Mallahy-Masciarelli Funeral Home directed arrangements. |
