Community remembers Kalagher
Kalagher died on Tuesday, Dec. 11, after being injured in a single-car accident on Old Ashburnham Road while driving to work in Rindge, N.H. She was the daughter of Patrick and Judy Kalagher. She is survived by her sister, Ashley Kalagher. Kalagher played on this year's undefeated junior varsity, as well as the varsity, field hockey teams. Her family and friends described her as "the ultimate team player." She was an honor student and was a member of the Spanish Club and worked on the annual yearbook. "She was beloved by her peers," said Oakmont Assistant Principal Greg Smith. "It was a tremendous tragedy for the school community." Members of the student body, staff members as well as other family and friends gathered at Oakmont on Sunday for a celebration of Kalagher's life. Smith said using the school as an auditorium for such a ser- vice is unusual but it was the largest venue in the communities. "This was a unique young lady," Smith said. The student body has created a variety of memorials for Kalagher, from a memorial tree to a remembrance on the "graffiti bridge." The family has established a scholarship fund in memory of the 16-year-old. Contributions can be sent to: Jordyn Taylor Kalagher Memorial Scholarship Fund, attn.: David Uminski, c/o Athol Savings Bank, 1499 Main St., Ashburnham, MA 01430.
