Westminster Veterans hosts Community Christmas Dinner

The Douglas E. Hicks, VFW Post 7389, Westminster, will host their annual Community Christmas Dinner from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 25, Christmas Day, in the VFW Hall, 8 Eaton St., Westminster. The dinner, turkey with all the trimmings, will be cooked and served by volunteers and is open to the community at no charge. Merry Christmas to all from the Veterans of VFW Post 7389 and thank to those who have contributed. Vehicle stickers extended

The Westminster Public Works Commission has extended the expiration date for vehicle stickers expiring Dec. 31. These stickers will be valid for one additional year, expiring Dec. 31, 2008.

Evangelidis attains perfect voting record

BOSTON- House Minority Leader Brad Jones congratulated state Rep. Lew Evangelidis (D-Holden) for achieving a perfect voting record in 2007.

Evangelidis participated in every one of the 243 roll call votes held this year, casting votes on legislation to protect consumers from identity theft, promote benefits for veterans, and increase local aid and education funding for cities and towns.

"Lew's voting record shows his dedication and commitment to being a true advocate for the people of his district," Jones said. "He devotes a great deal of time and effort to being an active, involved legislator, and his constituents certainly reap the benefits."

Agricultural Commission vacancies

The Board of Selectmen is looking for Westminster residents to serve on the Agricultural Commission that was established at the fall town meeting in November. The members of the Commission will represent the Westminster farming community by serving as facilitators to encourage agriculture and promote the agricultural-based economic opportunities in the town.

The five-member commission will be responsibilities will include a variety of different issues.

Commission members must be registered voters in Westminster.

Forbush Memorial announces upcoming events

The Forbush Memorial Library, located at 118 Main St., Westminster, would like to thank Santa Claus for taking the time from his busy schedule to them. Thanks are also in order for all of the volunteers who helped with the bake and book sale.

The library will be the venue for eight Thursday-night Great Decisions gatherings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. beginning Jan. 24 through March 13. Presenters will be former Ambassador George Lane and Dr. Kevin Hart, who will discuss the following topics: Iraq end-game, talking to our enemies, Russia, U.S. defense & security policy, Latin America (shift to the left), U.S.-China trade policy, and private philanthropy. Books provided. Registration required; space is limited.

Dance Dance Revolution and Guitar Hero will be held from 1 to 2:30 p.m. (for ages 8 to 11) and from 5:30 to 7:30 (for ages 12 and over) on Thursday, Dec. 27. Registration required.

The library will be closed Christmas Eve, Monday, Dec. 24, and Christmas Day, Tuesday, Dec. 25. The library will be open New Year's Eve, Dec. 31, from 1 to 5 p.m. and closed on Jan. 1.
