Francis S. Babineau, 77
Active in Boy Scouts; was Fitchburg resident

TEMPLETON - Francis S. Babineau, 77, of Templeton, formerly of Fitchburg, died Monday, Dec. 10, 2007, in HealthAlliance Hospital/Leominster, after an illness.

He was born on Jan. 19, 1930, in Fitchburg, the son of J. Alfred and Marie Evelyn (Mercier) Babineau and lived in Fitchburg many years before moving to Templeton several years ago.

Francis was a custodian for the Westminster Elementary School in Westminster for eight years before his retirement in January 1994.

He was very active in the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He had been attending Holy Cross Church in Templeton. While living in Fitchburg, Francis had been an active member of Immaculate Conception Church and served as a sexton for the church for many years.

Francis leaves his brother, Camille Babineau of Leominster; two sisters, Jacqueline Gladding of Leominster and Theresa Babineau of Worcester; his extended family, members who loved and cared for him while he was living in Templeton, among whom were Philip Wonkka of Orange, who was like a son to him who died in November 2007, Philip's wife Joyce (Larrabee) Wonkka also of Orange, James and Nicole Wonkka, Philip David Wonkka, Julie Wonkka, Gerry and Julie Wonkka of Pepperell, Alan and Debra Gale of Greensbobough, N.C., and Aili and Kaari Wonkka who knew him as Grampa Frank. He was predeceased by his brother, Roland Babineau, in September 2007.

Memorial donations may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, 1980 Lunenburg St., Lancaster, MA 01523.
