ASHBURNHAM - Evelyn (Strachan) von Deck, 70, of 34 Russell Hill Road, passed away peacefully after a valiant struggle with cancer.

Evelyn was born in Helensburgh, Scotland on May 30, 1937, the daughter of the late Peter and Elizabeth A.H. (Gilchrist) Strachan, and lived in Ashburnham for 45 years. She married her beloved husband, Joseph von Deck on Feb. 24, 1958.

She worked as a teacher in Winchendon, Ashburnham, and the Cushing Academy Summer School. She was a member of the Ashburnham Community Church, the Women's Auxiliary of Ashburnham Community Church, the Cleo Women's Club, Ashburnham Historical Society, the Civil War Round Table of Central Mass, Friends of the Stevens Memorial Library, and the Lane Village IC and C.

Besides her husband, Joseph von Deck; Evelyn is survived by two sons, Scott von Deck and Philip von Deck, both of Ashburnham; one brother, Steven Strachan of Chelmsford, England; and two nieces.
