Spartan Ice Hockey team takes on Raiders, Chieftains

Oakmont Boys' Varsity Ice Hockey team played an outstanding game against Fitchburg High at Iorio Arena at Cushing Academy on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The Spartans tied the Fitchburg Red Raiders 2 to 2 after trailing twice in the game.

Scoring for the Spartans were Carl Shell and Stephen Amblo. Ian Cornwall assisted on Shell's goal and logged a huge amount of ice time and anchored the defense. Aaron Testa played a great game between the pipes and kept the score tied late in the third period.

On Saturday, Dec. 15, the Spartans beat Nashoba Regional High School 4 to 2. The Spartan's out shot the Chieftains 23 to 16. Leading the way with scoring was Shell who scored a hat trick. Shell has four goals in two games and has helped the team off to a great start this season. Cornwall netted the first goal of the game. Brendan Gallagher had two assists and made a nifty pass on a two on one to Shell who finished off a great play. Nick Carter assisted on Shell's first goal.

The Spartans jumped out to a three goal lead, but the Chieftains climbed back into the game by scoring two goals in the second period. That was as close as the Chieftains would come however as the Spartans played a strong third period and finished off Nashoba.

Zack Belliveau played between the pipes and had a good game stopping 14 of 16 shots. The Spartan's Red Line consisting of Matt Biggs, Seth Korich and Jayson Gauvin played a strong game and kept the pressure and puck in the Chieftains' zone all night.
