Westminster Town Clerk announces election calendar
The first chance for voters to take part in the town election is the town caucus at which those attending nominate people to run for the offices. The town caucus is not allowed to adjourn until someone is nominated to each position. John Fairbanks, a member of the Board of Selectmen, is up for re-election to the board, this year as his three-year term expires. The town moderator position is up for election. It is currently filed by John Bowen and is a three year position. Denise MacAloney will be running for re-election as town clerk, which is a three-year term. Two positions for the Board of Health will be on the ballot. The first is a three-year position that is currently held by Peter M. Munro, who is also up for re-election to a three-year position on the Cemetery Commission. The second position is a one-year term to fill the seat vacated by Daniel Ervin, who resigned after he moved out of town. Juliette Bedard and Cynthia Hasting- Brutvan both have terms expiring this year on the Library Board of Trustees. Both seats are for three-year terms. This April terms expire for Planning Board members Marie Auger and Claude LeBlanc. Their seats are both three year terms. James Walker, of the Hagar Park Commission; Darlene Boucher-Bastarache, of the Board of Assessors; Brenda Rufiange, of the Housing Authority; and constable Roger Hales are also all up for re-election. This year's annual town election may also have a question on the ballot for voters to decide whether or not to change the town's treasure-collector position into an appointed. The question must first be approved by voters at the special town meeting in February. Melody Gallant, the towns' treasurer-collector, is up for re-election this year for what would be a three-year term.
