Ashburnham Council on Aging February events The Ashburnham Council on Aging (COA) provides numerous services for the senior citizens in town, most at little or no cost. The Ashburnham Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located on 1 Memorial Drive in the same building as, and next to, the Ashburnham Police Department. All Ashburnham senior citizens are welcome to drop in. They have a lot of information that might be of interest and an area for a good time just getting together for a cup of coffee and a chat. The following are some of the services/ activities available at the Senior Center: Meals-on-Wheels are available to those unable to get out. MOC Nutrition Lunch Meals are served at noon. You must reserve the day before by calling the meal-site at (978) 827-5735. Cost of meals is a donation of $2. For transportation, call (978) 827-5000. Transportation on the Senior Van costs $0.25 each stop intown and $0.50 each way to Fitchburg or Gardner. Additional activities include: lunch, bingo, arts & crafts, Forever Young Club meetings and events, line dancing, speakers, blood pressure clinics, exercise, and the Tax Work Off Program. Information is available to seniors and their families on a number of topics. Referral to other agencies and services is provided as needed. For more information, contact Mary Lee Muesel at (978) 827-5000. Upcoming Events: The Forever Young Club will hold its 30th anniversary celebration at noon Wednesday, Feb 13. Lunch will be a pot luck and those attending are asked to bring a simple dish. You can call for inexpensive suggestions if you would like. Reservations needed. Join the luncheon trip to TGI Friday's Restaurant in Leominster on Friday, Feb. 15. The van leaves from the COA Senior Center at 11 a.m. Lunch is on your own. Reservations requested. A luncheon visit, with friends at Broadview Assisted Living in Winchendon, will be held on Thursday, Feb. 21. Van departs COA Senior Center at 11 a.m. Reservations requested. Love is in the air on Monday, Feb. 25, at noon as the center celebrates Valentine's Day (a little late) with a special lunch of baked ham w/ pineapple raisin sauce, sweet potatoes, rye bread, and pineapple. Homemade apple pie with ice cream rounds off the menu for dessert. Reservations requested. "Pizza and Bingo for a Buck" is on the agenda for Tuesday, Feb. 26 at noon. One dollar buys you lunch and one bingo card. You can buy additional cards at $1 each. Try your luck and have fun at the same time. Reservations requested. The center is pleased to host the Louise Reid Specialty Book Sale, to benefit the Historical Society and the Conservation Trust. Romances are featured Feb. 7, 8, 9 followed by Mysteries and True Crime on Feb 14, 15, and 16. Espionage, Horror, War and Science Fiction goes on sale Feb. 21, 22, and 23. with General and Historical Fiction and Classics starting on Feb. 28, 29, and March 1. Hours of the sale are Thursdays and Fridays 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturdays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. |
