A basketball player through and through this 6'5" Oakmont senior spends most of his time on the court whether it is playing for Oakmont Regional High School's varsity team or keeping his skills sharp with summer league play.

From the fun of competing on the court to succeeding further each season and competing for greater achievement as the week's progress, Greg Beaudoin works as the center on the basketball teams.

"I enjoy competing," he said, of his time on the court.

Beaudoin is the son of Brian and Mary Beaudoin, and he has lived in Westminster nearly all of his life. Beaudoin's mother and uncle both played basketball when they were younger but he said that family connection is not what brought him into the game.

Most of his friends are members of the basketball team, so even when they aren't playing or practicing they are hanging out together.

"We've all been together since freshman year," he said. "It's good to play with the same group."

Beaudoin has spent the last two years playing on the varsity squad but spent a year on each the freshman and junior varsity teams.

The 17-year-old plans on going to the University of Massachusetts - Amherst, but has not yet decided what he is going to major in.

"There are a lot of things that I'm interested in," he said. "It's wide open."

He says he's surprised at how fast his senior year is going and that he'll miss Oakmont.

"I like the atmosphere," he said. "I like to be around a lot of people."

He is pretty satisfied with his high school career because of his decision not just to sit back in school but to be active.

"I wouldn't change much. I like all the decisions I made," he said.

In his classes Beaudoin enjoys the sciences, especially chemistry and environmental studies, but isn't a big fan of the languages, despite the fact that he not only takes English courses but also Spanish and Latin ones. He is also a member of the Spanish Club.

"It's almost like a cultural club," he clarifies.

The thing he does know is that he will not be going out for the university's varsity basketball squad.

"I'll play a lot of intramural sports instead," he said.

Beaudoin isn't only a jock but he also enjoys many different forms of art and has recently won the Boston Globe Award and several honors from the Leominster Art Association. And he has received the senior superlative "Most Artistic."

This love of art is connected to his family, his father Brian is the art teacher at Overlook and also holds private lessons.

"He's always been doing art," said Beaudoin, who added that he would work in his dad's studio after practices and games.

"I like to joke around a lot. I like to be unique," he said. "I just like to be myself."
