Neighbors appreciate the help from 2007 To the Editor: 2007 was a landmark year for "Neighbors Helping Neighbors." We celebrated 20 years as an all-volunteer, non-profit organization with the mission of providing assistance to residents of Westminster who are faced with tragedy and financial difficulties due to reasons beyond their control. We would like to thank all the individuals, community groups and local businesses who participated in our 20th Annual Town Benefit Day on August 12. From the volunteers who set-up, clean-up, man the booths, provide entertainment and help with parking; to those who donate to the Auctions, Farmer's Market, Kid's Flea Market and Bake Sale; to the hundreds who enjoy the day by, playing some games, sampling the food, testing their aim and buying raffle tickets - we are grateful for all your contributions. The day was an enormous success, raising over $19,000 for "Neighbors Helping Neighbors," and truly represented the spirit of a community working together. During 2007, The Town Benefit Fund was the recipient of a number of corporate and memorial donations. In addition, we were fortunate to receive several contributions in honor of local residents. As a result of 20 years of hosting similar "Neighbors Helping Neighbors" events, we are pleased to have touched the lives of over 90 Westminster families by helping them through difficult times. This winter has been a difficult one - increased heating bills, increased insurance costs and increased prices at the gas tanks have had a significant impact on many families. With the ongoing support of this amazing community, we are able to continue our important mission now and into the future. On behalf of the Benefit Board, as well as the families we have been able to help, thank you to all who generously support the Westminster Benefit Fund.
