Ashburnham COA's March events

The Ashburnham Senior Center is open Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located on 1 Memorial Drive in the same building as, and next to, the Ashburnham Police Department.

The following are some of the services / activities available at the Senior Center: Meals-on-Wheels are available to those unable to get out. MOC Nutrition Lunch Meals are served at noon. You must reserve the day before by calling the meal-site at (978) 827-5735. Cost of meals is a donation of $2.

If you need transportation, call (978) 827-5000. Transportation on the Senior Van costs $0.25 each stop intown and $0.50 each way to Fitchburg or Gardner.

Additional activities include: lunch, bingo, arts & crafts, Forever Young Club meetings and events, line dancing, speakers, blood pressure clinics, exercise, and the Tax Work Off Program.

Upcoming Events:

Make beautiful stained glass window hangings, with instructions from Phyllis Antidormi, at 1 p.m. Tuesdays, March 18 and 25. Free; however class size is limited to 10; registration requested. Materials and tools provided.

The Ashburnham Council will conduct a blood pressure and diabetes screening from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, March 11. This service is offered in partnership with the Nashoba VNA. Health questions are welcome. Anyone over age 55 may participate in the program.

The COA has scheduled two day trips during the month of March. The first trip will be held on March 13, to Nashua, N.H. for shopping at the Christmas Tree Shop and A.C. Moore. Lunch is at Ruby Tuesday. Van donation of $3 requested, lunch is on your own. Van departs from the center at 9:30 a.m. The second day trip goes to Yankee Candle in Deerfield for shopping and to Gonomad's with a wide range of choices and prices for lunch on Wednesday, March 26. The van will leave the center at 9:30 a.m. Seating for 10, reservations required, if trips fill up, you can sign up for the waiting list for the next one.

A St. Patrick's Day celebration will be held at noon on Wednesday, March 12. Corned beef, boiled potatoes, carrots, cabbage, rye bread and pistachio pudding cake served. Two day advanced reservation required. Cost is $2.

The COA will enjoy lunch at Monty Tech on Wednesday, March 19. The van leaves from the center at 11:30 a.m. Advanced reservations requested; transportation requested.

"Pizza and Bingo for a Buck" will be held at noon Tuesday, March 25. One dollar buys your lunch, dessert and bingo card. All seniors welcome; transportation available.
