Festival celebrates young children ASHBURNHAM - The 10th annual Young Children's Festival will be held from 9 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 15, at Overlook Middle School, 10 Oakmont Drive. The Ashburnham-Westminster Community Partnership for Children celebrates the Week of the Young Child at this exciting festival featuring fun,

hands-on activities and crafts for young children, various entertainers, a family raffle, live animals, valuable resources for families and more. Also, the Friends of Briggs

Parent Teacher Association is hosting its annual Bunny Breakfast from 8 to 11 a.m. in conjunction with the festival at Overlook Middle School. Cost for the breakfast is $5 per adult, $3 per child. Get your picture taken with the Easter Bunny and try to guess how many jelly beans are in the jar.

The Leominster Lions Club will hold a Casino Night at 7 p.m. at the Four Points by Sheraton, 99 Erdman Way, Leominster. Grand prize is $1,000 (all taxes are winner's responsibility). Game tables include: Texas Hold-em, Black Jack, Roulette, Under/Over, and Money Wheel. Entrance fee is a $25 donation.

Tryouts and registration for Fitchburg- Westminster-Ashburnham Babe Ruth baseball will be held at the Fitchburg High School Gymnasium (off Ashby St. Road). Players should bring a glove and wear sneakers. Registration and tryouts for players age 13 begins as 12:30 p.m. Registration and tryouts for players age 14 to 15 begins at 2 p.m. Players who played on a Division 1 team last spring, do not need to tryout. The Wallace Figure Skating Club presents its 35th Annual Ice Show "Skating to The Hits Featuring Songs From Radio Disney" with shows at 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. in Landry Arena, Wallace Civic Center, 1000 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg. A meat raffle will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. at the American Legion Hall, 132 Williams Road, Ashburnham. Doors open at 1:30 p.m. for early birds who will get an extra raffle ticket. Proceeds to benefit Ashburnham Lions Club charitable causes.

Townsend United Methodist Church will hold a St. Patrick's Day Supper from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at 265 Main St., Townsend. The menu will feature authentic Irish recipes of Irish stew, Irish chicken-leek pie, colcannon, Dublin coddle, baked carrots, and assorted pastries. Call (978) 597- 2486.

The Men's and Social Ministry groups at Emanuel Lutheran Church will serve a corned beef, cabbage, and potatoes dinner at 6 p.m. at the church, 1200 John Fitch Highway, Fitchburg. Ronald F. Lange will present a narrated slide show entitled "Backcountry Adventures" at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for children under 12. Proceeds to support the church's 2008 budget. The Finnish Center at Saima Park will host a "St. Urho's Day" celebration at 7 p.m. at the park located at 61 Scott Road, Fitchburg. The celebration will feature a buffet of homemade foods, music, games and fun. Tickets are $12. Wear green and/or purple. Irish, Finnish, saint, or none of these, all are welcome. The Mark Slauenwhite Benefit will be held from 7 p.m. to midnight at the Fraternal Order of Eagles Hall, 71 City Hall Ave., Gardner. The benefit will feature raffles, a bake sale, entertainment, and cash bar. Slauenwhite, a resident of Leominster, is battling lung cancer that has also migrated to his hip. He served in Desert Storm and is also an active reservist stationed out of the Naval Base in Groton, Conn. Tickets can be purchased at the door, or in advance at Gordon's Music, Twin City Plaza, Leominster. 16 SUNDAY A breakfast with the Easter Bunny, to benefit Ahimsa Haven Animal Rescue, will be held from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the American Legion, School Street, Winchendon. The Fitchburg Senior Center, 14 Wallace Ave., celebrates St. Patrick's Day at 11 a.m. beginning with the Irish Step Dancers, followed by a traditional corned beef dinner. Two Old Friends will perform a St. Patrick's Day Concert at 7 p.m. at The Great Hall of Memorial Hall, Townsned. Mac McHale and Emery Hutchins will delight the audience with music from Ireland, the mountains, and the sea. With banjo, guitar, mandolin, concertina, bodran, octave mandolin, and heart-warming vocal harmonies, they tell a story in music of how immigrants came to this country from Ireland, Scotland, and Great Britain, bringing melodies and instruments; and they show how the old time country ballads of the Appalachians are rooted in these tunes. The Ashburnham-Westminster Regional School District Parent Advisory Council (AWRSD-PAC) will offer a free presentation titled "Labeling & Diagnosis in Psychology, Neuropsychology and Special Education" from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Overlook Middle School, 10 Oakmont Drive, Ashburnham. This seminar, presented by Joseph Moldover, Psy.D. and Jessica Benetti-McQuoid, Ph.D., from the Integrated Center for Child Development in Canton, focuses on helping parents to understand the terms that are used in clinical psychology, psychiatry, and special education. It will also address the benefits of an accurate diagnosis, as well as the potential stigma of a label. Open to the public. Habitat for Humanity will meet at 7 p.m. at the Stevens Memorial Library, 118 Main St., Ashburnham. Discussion will be on the groundbreaking ceremony and getting volunteers for the actual build which should hopefully begin in April.
