Voters will voice opinion in one contested race Westminster voters will be facing one contested race when polls open at 7 a.m. on Tuesday at Westminster Elementary School, as Sammi Dawley challenges incumbent Peter Munro for a seat on the Cemetery Commission. Both candidates have discussed the need to plan for the future growth of the town's cemetery land and the completion of the Urn Garden that has been started but is still in the works. The town almost faced a second contested race, as two residents submitted nomination papers for a vacant three-year term to represent Westminster on the Ashburnham- Westminster Regional School Committee. But, William C. "Bud" Taylor II withdrew from the race in time to have his name removed from the ballot, while Joshua Schonborg will continue to seek a seat on the committee. School Committee incumbent Leonard Beaton is also seeking re-election for a three-year term in the second seat up for election on the School Committee. Selectman John Fairbanks is running un-opposed for re-election to a three-year term on the board. Newcomer Hee-Shee "Jim" Eagle is running for one of two seats on the Forbush Memorial Library Board of Trustees. Incumbent Juliette Y. Bedard is seeking reelection for her three-year seat. Patricia Glover, who was appointed to the Board of Health in January to fill the position vacated by Daniel Ervin in November, is seeking election for the oneyear term that would finish off Ervin's expected term. Munro is also seeking reelection to the Board of Health, which is a three-year term. Other incumbents seeking re-election include Melody Gallant as the town's treasurer collector, Steven L. Couture as a constable, Brenda M. Rufiange for the Housing Authority, James A. Walker for the Hager Park Commission, Darlene Boucher to the Board of Assessors, Denise MacAloney as town clerk and John Bowen as the town moderator, as well as Marie N. Auger and Claude J. LeBlanc for respective terms on the Planning Board. The polls will be open on Tuesday, April 29, from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Westminster Elementary School. |
