Student takes top award at regional art exhibition Brianna Jamieson, of Oakmont Regional High School, was one of 10 area high school students to receive a top award in the 26th Annual Regional Exhibition of High School Art. The regional exhibition took place in April at Mount Wachusett Community College and displayed at more than 300 pieces created by students attending 16 area high schools. In addition to the 10 top award winners, there were an additional 75 students that received honorable mentions for their artwork. The other top award winners were: Robert Over and Hillary Lewis of the Bromfield School; Kat Castillo of ConVal Regional High School; Lee McFadden of Fitchburg High School; Steven Johnston of Monadnock Regional high School; Clara Kim of St. Bernard's High School; Kelly Culhane of Wachusett Regional High School; and Yeawon Park and Yi Ji Kim of the Winchendon School. "We are always impressed with what the local high schools are accomplishing," said Joyce Miller, the chairwoman of MWCC's art department. "After seeing the exhibition and viewing the students work on display in the gallery, I believe each student should be proud of their accomplishments and continue with their art. Choosing 10 works out of such a diverse and strong exhibition was not an easy decision." Miller and art faculty member John Pacheco and Tom Matsuda select the award recipients based on work that exhibits originality and shows technical and artistic skills in the medium. |
