Committee looking for go ahead

The Bresnahan Scouting and Community Center Building Committee is working on the next step of the project moving forward, and want citizens to vote for two town meeting articles.

"We want to get permission from the general population," said Committee member Harry Powers. "I think the Selectmen feel a little bit stretched on what they can approve without permission of the general town."

If the articles are passed the first would allow the demolition of the property on the corner of River Street. Selectmen wanted to make sure the voters gave permission to give the go ahead.

The current building that has been used for a community center has been deemed unsafe. The local Boy Scouts had use the building for their meetings.

The second article would allow the Selectmen to lease the 2.7 acres of land to a non-profit entity for a community use facility. The Committee is working with legal counsel to create a trust to operate and maintain the building.

The Committee has been working to raise money for a number of years and have raised $45,000. They are planning on raising enough money or in-kind to build the house and landscape the former park area.

The Scouting Center was designed and dedicated in memory of William j. Bresnahan, who was killed in Vietnam while a member of the U.S. Marine Corps.
