William T. Craigen, 71
Served on the Westminster Police Department

FITCHBURG - William T. Craigen, 71, of 545 Wanoosnoc Road, died Sunday, May 11, 2008, at home after an illness with his loving family at his bedside.

William was born in Fitchburg on Aug. 24, 1936, the son of William J. and Helen (Kymalainen) Craigen and lived most of his life in Fitchburg. He graduated from Fitchburg High School in 1954 and was on the football and track teams.

He served for several years on the Westminster Police Department and served 17 years on the Fitchburg Police Department. After retirement he worked in various security positions.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving as a First Lieutenant. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Police, the Fitchburg Municipal Retirees Association, and the Fitchburg Lodge of Elks. He loved camping and fishing and dogs.

He leaves his loving companion of 27 years, Myrna Lockhart Baker; his sons, Steven Craigen and his wife, June, of Ashby, Donald Craigen and his wife, Marlene, and Thomas Craigen and his wife, Catherine, both of Fitchburg; his daughter, Kathleen Hamelin and her husband, Michael, of Fitchburg; 14 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; his faithful dog, Molly; and several cousins. His wife of 26 years, Janet (Lamb) Craigen, died in 1980; his grandson, Matthew Craigen, died Aug. 13, 2007.
