Spartans tennis teams' news

The Oakmont Boys' Tennis team beat Hudson on Friday, May 9, 3-2.

Oakmont players took two of the three singles matches. Oakmont's Tom Palmer defeated Eric Davis, of Hudson, 6-3, 6-7 (6-8), 6-3; and Oakmont's Zackary Hathaway defeated Ryan McGinly, 4-6, 6-3, 7-6; but Hudson's Rob Bowen defeated Sawyer Mahoney, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4.

In doubles matches, Hudson's Drew Holden and Cody Smith defeated Chris Brouillet and Andrew Richard, 7-5, 4-6, 6-3; while Karl Wing and Ken Murphy, of Oakmont, defeated Brian Leon and Neal Jordan, 6-3, 0-6, 6-4.

On Thursday, May 8, the Spartans beat West Boylston 3-2.

In singles Carl Barnard, of West Boylston defeated Palmer 6-3, 6-4; Hathaway defeated Jake Sander of West Boylston 6-2, 6-2; and Mahoney defeated John Welch of West Boylston, 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3.

In doubles matches Ben Norton and Paul Bidgood of West Boylston, defeated Brouillet and Richard, 6-2, 6-0; and Wing and Murphy defeated Matt Staychoff and Greg Phelps of West Boylston, 3-6, 7-6 (8-6), 6-3.

The Oakmont Girls' Tennis team beat Clinton 3-2 on Tuesday, May 13.

In singles, Ashley Trautner of Clinton, defeated Oakmont's Stephaine Nebes, 6-1, 6-1; Joanna Gustafson of Oakmont, defeated Molly Igo, 6-0, 6-4; and Keishla Mendez of Clinton defeated Jen Carroll 6-3, 6-0.

The Spartans dominated the doubles play when Gretchen Carlson and Hannah Ulshen of Oakmont, defeated Jessica Burdick and Kelsey Ring of Clinton, 6-2, 6-4; and Elizabeth Brannon and Sally Ledger of Oakmont defeated Carissa Chase and Abby Hastings, 6-0, 6-0.
