Local B&B named Editor's Choice by Yankee Magazine

One of Ashburnham's bed and breakfasts has been picked as an Editor's Choice in the 2008 Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England.

The Maguire House Bed and Breakfast on Cobb Road is named in the magazine that will be on stands now through the end of August.

"The Editors' Choice recommendation designates Yankee editors' and writers' favorite restaurants, lodgings, and attractions across New England, with information resources divided by state and region," according to a recent press release.

"Yankee's editors and our trusted legion of travel writers select our Editors' Choice winners," says Yankee editor Mel Allen in the press release. "From their own experiences and tips from our readers, they research and find the most deserving establishments in New England. Recipients range from the rustic to the refined, but all are noteworthy and memorable destinations."

The Maguire House Bed and Breakfast was built in 1764 when it served as one of the area's first inns before resorting to a private home in 1898.

It was converted back into a bed and breakfast in 1997.

The house sits on 44 acres of land and has a total of three guest rooms, each with a queen sized bed and private bath.

The Maguire House keeps with the New England atmosphere of antique furniture and handmade quilts, as well as freshly baked breads.

"We serve a full New England breakfast with seasonal fruit, homemade granola, and your choice of eggs, waffles, pancakes, or French toast. Complimentary refreshments are served each afternoon," according to press release from the Maguires. "We invite you to relax by a warm fire, stroll along the pristine lake, or simply rest on the porch enjoying the spectacular view of Mt. Monadnock and surrounding hills."

Yankee Magazine's Travel Guide to New England has been published for more than 30 years and covers the six-state region, providing readers with a comprehensive vacation planning tool and daily reference.
