Military's past and present

In a special ceremony Oakmont seniors Michael Rathier and Robert Lowe raised the American Flag in honor of Memorial Day, as they were watched by staff members and U.S. veterans Dennis Driscoll, Brian Sargent, Ken Jepson, Greg Smith and also by Principal David Uminski. Rathier is enlisting in the Air Force Reserves upon graduation and hopes to become flight nurse. Lowe is enlisting in the Army Reserves and hopes to serve as an officer. Also enlisting is senior Edmond Matilainen, who will serve in the U.S. Navy, but was not at the ceremony. JOURNAL PHOTO/CAITLYN KELLEHER
