Finnish Center celebrates Summer Festival

FITCHBURG - The 102nd annual New England Finnish Summer Festival (Kesäjuhla) will be held Saturday, June 28, and Sunday, June 29, at Saima Park, Scott Road. Festivities will kick off with a concert by Sillanpää from Finland at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Following the concert there will be a bonfire (kokko) for all to enjoy. Coffee and pulla, and cheese (donated by Cabot Cheese) and crackers will be served. The concert has been made possible by the financial support of the Fitchburg Cultural Council, Finlandia Foundation National, and Finland Society. Tickets are $10 and can be purchased at the door. The festival continues from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, June 29, with a fun walk at 10:30 a.m., a chicken barbecue from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and a cultural program at 1:30 p.m. Festivities also include moomin stories, demonstrations, artists, arctic sundaes and more. Proceeds to benefit Raivaaja Publishing Company and The Finnish Center at Saima Park
