Downtown Day
Editorial

The Ashburnham Business Council and the Ashburnham Lions Club have done it again.

They have planned Downtown Day for the sixth time.

It's a day of fun - pony rides and the Velcro Wall for the children, and a chicken barbecue and music for the adults - and it's a day of business.

The goal of trying to support local businesses and business owners is a great thing to do. We see a lot of big cities doing such events, such as the Leominster, which is hosting the second Summer Stroll also on Saturday. The city of Fitchburg has many Civic Day events that will take place during the week before the Fourth of July.

These are the events that help encourage people to shop in the local stores. If you know Megan at To Each His Own Design, you might be more likely to stick your head in to get that flower arrangement on Mother's Day. Or if you know Alan at the Ashburnham Market Place, you might be more likely to stop there for your milk and bread.

The Business Council had a great idea six years ago when they started this event. It brings residents out and into their community and it brings others back, too.

Let us take a moment now and thank the people on the Business Council and in the Lions Club for their hard work and their dedication in bring this event together.

And now we encourage you to stop by the Downtown Day events.

Eat a hot dog or a hamburger and help support the Bresnahan Scouting and Community Center.

Pick up a light bulb from the Ashburnham Municipal Light Company, so the next time your light goes dark you have a long-lasting spare.

Ride a pony, listen to the music and just hang out, but most of all stop by our table and say "hi" and pick up a free balloon. We look forward to seeing each of you there.
