Monty Tech seniors earn awards Sarah Bailey, of Westminster, in the cosmetology trade, earned the MRTA George Ross L. Citizenship Award, a Business Education Enrichment Fund (BEEF) Financial Award and the Ryan Patrick Jones Heart of a Hero Scholarship - Music. She also received the Highest Achievement in Skills USA. Josh Gikis, of Westminster, in the drafting technology trade earned a BEEF Financial Award. He also earned the Outstanding Senior Academic Award in English and Spanish. Gregory Croteau, of Westminster, in the drafting technology trade, earned the James O'Donnell Memorial Scholarship. Jonathan Moore, of Westminster, in the culinary arts trade earned the Frank Linhart Memorial Award, the Mary L. LeRay Memorial Culinary Arts Award and the Outstanding Senior Academic Award in art. Westminster residents Patrick Connors, in the cabinetmaking trade, earned the Massachusetts Vocational Association Presidential Certificate of Merit; Alyssa Scruton, in the graphic communication trade, earned the Ashburnham-Westminster Rotary Club Award; and Zachary Hurd won a Most Outstanding Student award. Ashburnham residents Jennifa Graves, in the cabinetmaking trade, earned the Ashburnham American Legion Thomas P. Sweeney - Post 142 Award as did Chanel Scott, in the culinary arts trade. Ryan Boudreau, of Ashburnham, earned a Most Outstanding Student award. These seniors completed a challenging and focused program of study and demonstrate readiness for employment and for college studies receive the award. Monty Tech award recipients recently receiving personalized certificates and congratulatory letters from the Southern Regional Education Board, which administers the test, are: "These students are to be commended for their efforts, said James R. Culkeen, Superintendent- Director of the school. "By taking challenging courses in high school and performing well on rigorous exams, they have increased the likelihood of success in the workplace and further education." Students qualify for the award by completing a college-preparatory course of study in at least two of three subject areas- English/language arts, mathematics/science or the humanities; and meeting readiness goals in all three-subject areas on the HSTW Assessment. HSTW, a Southern Regional Education Board (SREB) initiative, is the largest high school improvement effort in the United States, with more than 1,100 school sites in 32 states. HSTW is supported by member states and grants from organizations, such as the Wallace Foundation, Goldman Sachs Foundation, the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation, Carnegie Foundation, Whitehead Foundation and the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. |
