(WEB UPDATE) MassDEP: Burning season can start sooner in Westminster
2009-01-01 / Front Page
(MONDAY, 3:09 P.M.) Westminster residents can start getting permit to burn their brush and debris as early as today based on a MassDEP exception to the Jan. 15 regulated date.
The amount of downed debris and brush in the central part of the state has caused the DEP to consider requests from local fire chiefs to open the state burning season early, said Joe Ferson, DEP spokesman. The local chiefs will continue to oversee the issuance of the permits, which are based on weather conditions and other public safety issues, Ferson said.
