On Thursday, Dec. 18, after having been out of power for a week, three Westminster residents Joe Panariello, Michael and Karlene Cudak baked holiday cookies at their grandmother's and decided to pay it forward by handing the cookies out to the utility workers.
Westminster residents Walter Heath and Kimberly Lane took this photo looking south from their perch at the Village at Old Mill after the ice storm. The glistening beauty of the ice was overlooked during the last few weeks because of the damage caused by the storm. The cookies wrapped in paper towels and sealed with the words "Thank you and Merry Christmas" were distributed to various parts of town where there were a number of utility workers.
One worker joked, "well, we still don't have power on yet on your road, do you want your cookie back?" The kids laughed and said the cookies were to keep the workers going even if the power was not on yet. This small token of appreciation had both groups of people walking away with smiles on their faces. Some workers the kids found were from Michigan, Illinois, Maryland and Canada.
Ashburnham resident Barbara Marshall took (two) pictures of the trees and the power lines that block Center Street in Ashburnham after the ice storm. |
